John Deere World Headquarters Once situated on the banks of the Mississippi River in downtown
Moline, Ill., John Deere World Headquarters is now located on John
Deere Road in the southeast corner of Moline. Designed by world-renowned
architect Eero Saarinen under the guidance of Deere President William
Hewitt, the property was completed in 1963 on a 120-acre site that
the two men had viewed from the windows of a small aircraft. The
two witnessed a resplendent view of rolling farmland, prairie and
woods sweeping more than 700 acres of countryside. When Hewitt
first tried to sell the idea of his new campus setting and talented
architect, the board first declined his wishes, leading Hewitt
to challenge the board to enlarge its vision for the future of
the company. Open to the Public
